How many calls does the fire department respond to each year?
Approximately 300

What types of calls does the fire department respond to?
Fires, alarms, carbon monoxide, hazardous materials, motor vehicle accidents, public assistance alarm, mutual aid requests, smoke conditions, water conditions, electrical problems, down wires.

Is the Borough’s Fire Department all volunteer?
One paid member who responds to alarms during the day with volunteers.

What type of training does each member possess?
Each member must complete the Fire Fighter 1 class offered by the Morris County Fire Academy. Some members possess medical training, certain specialized training, and incident management

What should I do if I see a vehicle on the road with a flashing blue light?
Pull over to the right and allow the vehicle to pass.

Who should I contact about joining the fire department?
If you are interested please send an email to fire@chathamborough.org. Prospective members should understand that membership requires a considerable time commitment. Please be sure you are comfortable with devoting Monday nights (drill night) and various other days or nights to fire department activities or events before inquiring.
